The tallest waterfalls in North Africa drop through a red gorge some three hours east of Marrakech, tiered and loud and ringed by olive terraces and old stone mills. Guests walk down to the plunge pools, take a boat out towards the spray where rainbows hang in the mist, and share the paths with the gorge's resident Barbary macaques. Lunch on a terrace above the water and a visit to a village argan cooperative round out the day before the drive back.
The route climbs east out of the Haouz plain through farmland and Middle Atlas foothills. Comfortable air-conditioned transport with your driver throughout.

First views come from the clifftop terraces, where the whole drop is visible at once. Sunlight on the spray usually throws a rainbow across the gorge.
Duration: 1 hour
A guided descent on switchback paths past olive trees and disused water mills to the pools at the base. Your guide points out the plants and birdlife along the way.

Duration: 10 minutes
Time at the traditional mills and a village argan oil cooperative, where the nuts are still cracked and pressed by hand. The macaques are usually somewhere close by.
