Chefchaouen Day trip by High speed train

A person walking past a vivid blue-washed wall in a narrow street of Chefchaouen

Overview

Chefchaouen sits high in the Rif mountains, and the high-speed train makes it a realistic day out from the coast rather than an overnight commitment. Travellers ride north to Tangier in two hours, then continue by air-conditioned van through coastal and mountain scenery to the blue-washed old town. A local guide leads the walk through the medina, the arcaded square at Uta el-Hammam and up to the spring at Ras el-Ma before the return leg.

Highlights

  • Two-hour high-speed train ride from Casa Voyageur to Tangier
  • The blue-painted lanes of the Chefchaouen medina with a local guide
  • Plaza Uta el-Hammam, where Arab and Andalusian influences meet
  • The Grand Mosque and its unusual octagonal minaret
  • Scenic Rif mountain drive with photo stops along the way
  • Air-conditioned van with WiFi and door-to-door hotel service
