Tangier has spent centuries absorbing Morocco, Europe and Africa at once, and the high-speed train puts it within a comfortable day's reach of Casablanca. The route takes in Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, the sea-mouthed Caves of Hercules and a camel ride on Achakkar beach before turning inland to the kasbah museums, the Grand Mosque and the lanes around Petit Socco. It is a full day, but the train does the heavy lifting at both ends.
