A long day out from Rabat to the blue town in the Rif, combining the high-speed train north with a road transfer up into the mountains. A local guide leads the walk through Chefchaouen's indigo-washed medina, across Plaza Uta el Hammam beneath the kasbah, and out to the spring at Ras El Ma where the town does its washing. Lunch is included, as are hotel transfers at both ends.
An early departure north on the high-speed line, following the Atlantic coast up to Tangier.
Duration: 2 hours
A guided walk through the old town, where nearly every wall, step and doorway is painted in shades of blue. The lanes open onto small workshops selling handwoven wool and local pottery.
The main square of the medina, ringed by cafés and overlooked by the red walls of the 15th-century kasbah.
Built in the 15th century and unusual for its octagonal minaret, it stands directly on the main square.
The spring at the medina's upper edge where water runs down from the mountain and local families still come to wash and cool off.
The road drops back out of the Rif toward the coast.
