A half-day circuit through Morocco's commercial capital, pairing the Hassan II Mosque — whose minaret rises straight out of the Atlantic — with the art deco boulevards laid out under the French protectorate. Travellers move by air-conditioned car from the mosque's prayer hall to the pigeon-filled expanse of Mohammed V Square, on to the shaded arcades of Quartier Habous and the piled stalls of the Marche Central. Entry to the mosque is prepaid and queue-free, and the driver collects guests from their hotel door.
Built out over the Atlantic, this is the largest mosque in Morocco and Africa and carries the tallest minaret in the world. Inside, carved cedar ceilings, hand-cut zellij and a retractable roof reward a slow walk.
