One-Day Layover Private Tour including Moroccan Bath

Interior of a traditional Moroccan hammam with tiled walls and bottles of massage and treatment oils set out ready for a bath ritual

Overview

Built for travellers holding a long layover at Mohammed V Airport, this private day meets guests in the terminal and hands over the city one landmark at a time. The Hassan II Mosque comes first with tickets already in hand, then the old medina, the Habous quarter, the downtown squares and the central market. A Moroccan bath mid-afternoon resets everyone before the souks and the beachfront, and the driver returns to the airport in good time for the onward flight.

Highlights

  • Airport to airport, planned around the length of the layover
  • Skip-the-line guided visit inside the Hassan II Mosque
  • A full Moroccan hammam with black-soap scrub, soaping and rhassoul wrap
  • Habous quarter, Arab League Park and the colonial-era downtown squares
  • Time in the souks with a driver who helps with prices
  • Private air-conditioned car and a multilingual driver for the whole day

Full Description

Casablanca Mohammed V Airport

A private driver meets arriving passengers inside the terminal and drives straight into the city. The road in takes roughly forty-five minutes.

Duration: 45 minutes

Hassan II Mosque

Morocco's largest mosque stands on a platform over the Atlantic, its minaret climbing 210 metres, the tallest in the world. A guide leads guests past the carved cedar, zellij tilework and the vast prayer hall, tickets already arranged.

Duration: 45 minutes

Old Medina (Old City)

A short walk inside the old walls, where lanes narrow between small mosques, workshops and stalls. This is the oldest lived-in quarter of Casablanca.

Duration: 15 minutes

Rick's Café

A pause at the courtyard house styled after the bar from the 1942 film, with its arches and brass lanterns. Enough time to look in and take a photograph.

Duration: 10 minutes

Arab League Park

The city's largest green space, laid out with palm avenues and shaded benches in the middle of the downtown grid. A quiet interval between the medina and the boulevards.

Duration: 15 minutes

Notre Dame de Lourdes

A modern concrete church whose walls are almost entirely stained glass, so the interior changes colour with the hour. A grotto with a statue of Mary sits to one side.

Duration: 15 minutes

Quartier Habous

The new medina, built during the French protectorate in a deliberately Moroccan idiom of arcades and keyhole arches. Bookshops, olive stalls and pastry counters make it the best browsing in the city.

Duration: 30 minutes

Square of Mohammed V

The civic heart of Casablanca, framed by 1920s administrative buildings and a working fountain. Pigeons and photographers share the paving.

Duration: 15 minutes

United Nations Square

The junction where the colonial-era boulevards run up against the walls of the old medina. It is the busiest crossing in the city and a good place to watch it work.

Duration: 15 minutes

Marche Central

Aisles of fish on ice, olives, spices and cut flowers under a single roof. A direct look at how Casablancais shop for dinner.

Duration: 15 minutes

Hammam Hassan II Mosque

A full-body scrub with pure black soap, followed by a wrap of rhassoul clay and a blend of Moroccan herbs. Towels, slippers and products are laid out ready.

Duration: 45-60 minutes

Traditional Markets

Time set aside in the souks for babouches, argan oil, leather and spices. The driver helps with directions and with prices.

Duration: 30 minutes

Twin Center

Casablanca's twin towers and the shopping galleries beneath them. A quick contrast with the medina lanes an hour earlier.

Duration: 15 minutes

Ain Diab

The beachfront strip along the corniche, Atlantic on one side and cafés on the other. A last breath of sea air before the airport run.

Duration: 15 minutes

Hotel or airport drop-off

The driver returns guests to their hotel or back to the terminal. Timing is set to leave room for check-in.
